Iseries Slip Install Lic
This document will give the basic steps to SLIP (replace over the top of the current installed) install the operating system from tape or optical or Virtual Optical.
- Initialize Disk Drives so All Data is Erased Off of a System Technote (troubleshooting). Do a D Manual IPL using a SAVSYS, full system save, or LIC Install CD.

But a 'Slip of the Lic' implies you just replace the lic and are not initializing the system. Otherwise it wouldn't be a slip of the lic, it would be an install. Well, if you are at 7.1 and want to scratch it and start over you might be ok if all you want is LIC. (No OS and LPPs.) Otherwise it's going to have a dickens of a time finding volume 2 after the disks have been initialized.

Upgrading from 5.4 or 6.1 to 7.1 using image catalogs is done all the time. Unless you are REALLY short of disk space it's the best way to fly. Re: Grace Period Expired Just 'off the head'. Back up all of your user libraries to tape. Power down the system. Change the front panel to indicate IPL from the CD drive. This will probably be something like '01 D M' or the like. Put disk 1 of the OS in the drive and IPL the machine.

Follow the on-screen prompts. Once you have the OS and all LPP installed, re-install your user libraries. That's the high level overview. It will probably be more involved than that but it depends on how your system is configured.

3 The Install LIC menu will provide 5 options. Select Option 2 to Install Licensed Internal Code and Initialize System. 4 After the install of LIC is complete, the system will IPL to the DST primary menu.
5 Configure all the disk drives by adding them into system ASP (ASP1). This writes zeroes on the disk drives so only the LIC is loaded. O Select Option 3 - Use DST. O Work with Disk Units.
O Work with Disk Configuration. O Work with ASP Configuration. O Add units to ASPs. O Type 1 in front of all the available units. 6 When that is complete, power off the system by pressing the power button two times. System is clean and ready to go.
Partitioned System: (This will remove all partitions and erase all data on drives from all earlier partitions.) Select Option 2 to Install Licensed Internal Code and Initialize System. 4 After the install of LIC is complete, the system will IPL to the DST primary menu. 5 Take the option to Work with system partitions. 6 Take the option to Recover configuartion data.
7 Take the option to Clear non-configured disk unit configuration data. 8 Exit back to the DST primary menu.
9 Configure all the disk drives by adding them into system ASP (ASP1). This writes zeroes on the disk drives so only the LIC is loaded.
O Select Option 3 - Use DST. O Work with Disk Units. O Work with Disk Configuration. O Work with ASP Configuration.
