Front of Amp and 4 cable method: When hooking up to front of amp and adjusting for my amps (Blackstar HT5 and HT 20 Studio) wanted to split the effects in my amps (compression/Overdrive in front, delays and reverb in the loop). Used the 4 cable method and adjusted the best I could. Sounds just don't translate well regardless of the amps you use and it sounds synthetic (note: blackstar are probably the most neutral/sterile sounding clean amps out. They don't share a common treble, mid, bass and ISF). Best Use: That said this is a recording board and nothing else.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but I don't think the Axe unit sounds much better in a live situation and the pod is definitely more user friendly. I use mine through a full range powered monitor or a Marshall jubilee 50w half stack. The patches are drastically different for each application.

People that say it sounds bad have probably not spent enough time tweaking the sounds. This unit with a JT Variax is all the rig any weekend warrior will need. Most people will never play through a PA good enough to appreciate any sound quality differences between this and the high end processors.

For me, almost all of the presets need tweaking but I have never owned any pedal that didn't. If you can't create a tone you like then keep experimenting. I like to tell people to use tiny adjustments when creating sounds.

Great tones can be passed over by a fraction of a tweak on any effects pedal. It took me a few days just to get the feel of this pedal.The display does take time to get use to. I recommend using the computer editing program to set up all of your sounds.

It is very easy to use and much nicer to look. Set your presets to the footswitch you want and your ready to go. If you're tired of the same old brands that haven't changed much, then give this pedal a try. Everyone has different taste. As for myself I will say this pedal is definitely worth checking out.

After much research I decided to purchase becuase of the budget I am on and the need for versatility with the cover band I am in. The default patches do show some of the possibilites this thing can do but overall are rather unispiring and I almost returned mine at first. After spending a weekend learning the interface, it payed off and now I am very happy. I will say need to have a good ear and some basic understanding of effects in order to make some killer setups on your own. I think my backround in mixing and recording def helped me. For someone who has never owned a DAW or is new to guitar it is probably not the best first pedal choice.

Easy to use and very versatile. The computer editing software is superb. You could spend months or years tinkering with the different variables. If you are an amateur recording artist at home THIS IS THE UNIT. It sounds amazing. Some of the weird FX are unnecessary in my view, but I suppose if you came up with some off the wall music then some of it could be useful.

The Preset effects are pretty bland. The magic comes from creating your own tones/effects. This unit is an ALL in one unit.

I sold all of my other gear because this unit had everything I needed in one nice sleek looking floor unit. I was going to buy this one or the Boss GT-100.

I chose the line 6 because I have been using line 6 gear for a long time. I am used to their tones. However the GT-100 is a very competitive pedal.

It is all in taste. The only thing I know of that is better than this pedal is the AxeFx II. But I don't have 2,000$ to spend. This is the next best thing.

Yes it will never compare with the real thing, but it does a good job simulating, and at the end of the day, the non-musician will never tell the difference (most musicians wont tell either). I have already come up with some tones that i like and use all the time at church, where I mostly play. But this unit has tons of options and possibilities that I still spend a lot of time playing and tweaking, and I'm always new tones tht I know I will use in the near future.

Very responsive amp tones, especially out of the blackface models. Hitting the DSP limit is pretty easy to do if you are running multiple amps with effects but I can live with that and find work-arounds. The tube compressor is much better than the old and new effects such as the octo reverb and being able to assign multiple effects to one foot switch are icing on the cake, so to speak! Takes time to find some distortion that sounds good. I play a Ibanez Premium and a JTV 59. Hooking up JTV and HD 500X is amazing what you can do. I highly recommend Glenn Delaune's tones, download them and save the trouble of writing them.

Best part many options to create your own tone, yet so many options can be daunting. This is not a plug and play unit, you will need to dedicate time to getting the most out of it. Another bonus is not carrying an amp around.

So i did my research but what turned me on to this was when I saw Blue Oyster Cult and was chatting with guitarist Richie Castellano after the show. I asked him nice tone you got those Mesa Boogie's dialed in perfect. He looked at me and said no man thats from the line 6 pod on the floor.

I said Richie there aint no way that tone was coming from that pod now comeon. Until he showed me I was floored! So I consulted Richie before buying this and man after I bought it 3 days later I used it for a Session! Was all I could say and so did the engineer didnt even use an amp! I've had mine a week now and I'm still finding great tones. Theres a great selection of guitar, Acoustic,Bass amps. There's even vocal patches with a XLR mic input. The effects are typical Line 6 quality which is quite good.

Everything is here, plus some off the wall effects too. The pitch shifting effects are quite good too. I added the new model packs that have a great selection of high gain and boutique amps, along with more bass and vocal/acoustic amps.

I have owned POD's since 2.0, so I understand Line 6's software. But to the uninitiated, it can be a bit frustrating, but it's worth the time to figure out, because there's thousands of great patches available for free in just about any style you can imagine. I don't even bother making up my own patches, it's much quicker to download a few and tweak them to your preference. It's built of sturdy all steel construction.

The pedal and switches feel solid too. A second expression pedal can be easily added. There's also a myriad of connection options, including digital and USB. Along with links for your Variax and Line 6 DTS series of amps. I have made some recordings and they sounded great in the mix. I bought the HD500X for direct to mixer/PA use. I am very happy with the amp and speaker modeling. The amp models such as Marshall copies sound great. I own two vintage Marshalls and a Block Head 18w amp and I can honestly say that this unit can copy their tones very closely. The Fender amp models also sound realistic. The variety of sounds you can get is very impressive. I was looking for classic and hard rock amp tones (AC/DC, The Black Crowes, Free, etc.) and this can do those and much more.

The routing flexibility is great. You can place effects and amps in any order and even place them in two parallel paths and blend their volume and pan however you want. Bottom line: If you're looking for realistic amp modeling for direct recording or PA, this unit is excellent!
